  Walk-in Clinics for Veterans

A plan was announced today in Phoenix that would allow 120,000 veterans to use CVS MinuteClinics for routine health care. Arizona Republic reporter Dennis Wagner, who broke the story of healthcare delivery problems at VA medical centers, will tell us about the effort to help veterans get quicker care.

  Stand Down Arizona

Stand Down Arizona is one of the largest veteran service events in the state. For two days hundreds of volunteers will help thousands of at-risk and homeless veterans navigate the services available to them. Brad Bridwell the former board chairman of The Coalition to End Homelessness will talk about the two- day event.

  Vets' Community Connections

A new program is being launched nationally in three locations, including Maricopa County, to help veterans connect with members of the community who can help them reintegrate into everyday life. Vets’ Community Connects allows veterans to dial 2-1-1, where they will be connected with a member of the community who has volunteered to help veterans through their particular expertise. Catherine Rea, CEO of 2-1-1 Arizona, and Felix Zayas, an Iraq veteran, West Point graduate and CEO of Harbinger Technologies Groups, will tell us more about Vets’ Community Connections.

Judi Combs, Founder of Scottsdale-based American Healing Arts Foundation, which provides free arts classes for veterans, will discuss the issue, along with Hal Stewart, a veteran and art instructor at American Healing Arts Foundation.

In our continuing look at veterans’ issues, we focus on ways to honor and acknowledge the service of veterans. Joanna Sweatt, the veterans’ initiatives program manager for Learnkey, and the chief operating officer of the Veterans’ Directory, a comprehensive directory of services for veterans, and Phil Yin, who served in Vietnam as a marine in the '60s and is a board member of the veterans’ heritage project yearbook, will discuss ways to honor veterans.
