STORIES OF ARIZONA
MONDAYS AT 7 PM
BEGINNING JUNE 3
ON KAET'S HORIZONStories of Arizona, a series showcasing the people and history of Arizona, premieres as a special feature of HORIZON, Monday, June 3, 2002 at 7 p.m. on Channel 8. New episodes will air every Monday through September. HORIZON is KAET's nightly public affairs program.
These portraits are based on videotaped oral histories - real stories told by real people in their own words. Six to nine minutes in length, the stories are brought to life with archival photographs, film and contemporary video of historic sites and artifacts. Filmmakers worked closely with museums and historians to ensure that a diverse group of people are represented in the series. Viewers will meet the pioneers, builders and shapers of the Southwest - prominent personalities as well as people who worked behind the scenes.
Among those interviewed are Dolan Ellis, Arizona's official balladeer; architect Bennie Gonzales; broadcast pioneer Bill Close; space artist Bob McCall; the Harvey Girls of railroad hotel fame; and Angel Delgadillo, organizer of the Historic Route 66 Association. The series is narrated by Mary Jo West and Bill Leverton.
Major funding for Stories of Arizona was provided by a gift from Bill and Sandy Miller and Tom and Kathy Chauncey. Stories of Arizona, a presentation of KAET-TV, is produced by Agave Productions, Inc. and veteran journalists Pam Knight Stevenson and Bonnie James Leverton. Bill Leverton is videographer. Agave Productions, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Southwest history.
KAET-TV/Channel 8 is a part of Arizona State University.
