The 2nd Arizona Roadmap to Veteran Employment Summit took place at the Arizona PBS studio June 17, 2016. This event is part of a statewide initiative to connect service members, veterans and their family members to employment opportunities, training and resources. Public and private employment stakeholders and veterans service providers attended the half-day summit, reviewing progress since last year’s inaugural forum, and charting the course forward for the Roadmap initiative, with a focus on best practices for job seekers, employees, employment service providers and employers.
Guest speakers included Secretary of State Michele Reagan, Arizona Department of Veterans' Services Director Colonel (Ret.) Wanda Wright and APS Director of External Communications Rear Admiral (Ret.) Hal Pittman, as well as Thomas and Nicola Winkel from hosting partner organization Arizona Coalition for Military Families.
The Roadmap initiative is funded in part by the Office of the Governor and the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family. APS, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the Safeway Foundation are providing additional support for the summit.
On March 26, 2015, the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services and Eight partnered to present the Arizona Roadmap to Veteran Employment Summit. This special event brought together employers, employment service providers and other public and private sector stakeholders to launch a statewide initiative to connect service members, veterans and their families to employment opportunities, training and resources.
Featured speakers included Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and LTC Chris Forsythe, representing the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Arizona is home to over 600,000 service members, veterans and their families. Eight’s partnership in the Roadmap is part of the Veterans Coming Home project, a collaboration of community organizations, government agencies and public media stations to recognize veterans for their service, share their stories and increase the awareness of local resources to provide a pathway to post-service success.
