About
"I hope that Horizonte educates both Hispanic and non-Hispanic viewers about the issues that are of major concern to all Arizonans. I am most proud of our ability to showcase the depth and variety of talent in the Hispanic community."
José Cárdenas,
Horizonte host
Horizonte, Eight's weekly public affairs program, focuses on Arizona issues through a Hispanic lens and is hosted by José Cárdenas, senior vice president and general counsel of Arizona State University. The Eight/KAET production was launched on September 18, 2003.
The management team for the PBS station recognized the importance of the Hispanic perspective within Arizona's community and wanted a program that presents that perspective on Eight. After holding auditions for several months, Cárdenas was selected as host of the weekly program.
Cárdenas has interviewed a veritable who's who of Arizona newsmakers on HORIZONTE. Governor Janet Napolitano, Congressmen Ed Pastor and Jeff Flake, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, Mesa Mayor Keno Hawker, political consultant Alfredo Gutierrez, Arizona Attorney General Andrew Thomas, Mesa Police Chief George Gascon, former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and Arizona Supreme Court Justice Ruth McGregor have all joined Cárdenas in the Horizonte studio to discuss issues ranging from public policy to education.
Other memorable guests include leading journalists: The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer's Ray Suarez and Univision's Jorge Ramos.

MIKE SAUCEDA, Executive Producer
Mike's voice may be as familiar as his work on HORIZON. In addition to his full-time duties as a HORIZON producer, Mike is a well-known news anchor on KTAR radio. Mike has been with HORIZON since 1990. He arrived with many years of local radio experience. In many ways, Mike represents the best in the classic (and disappearing) style of traditional reporter. He likes nothing better than digging and digging at a complex issue, then crafting it into a segment the community can understand and learn from. Mike is an Arizona native.
