September 17, 2007- The Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Youth Band
- The Sedona Jazz on the Rocks (SJOR) festival is right around the corner (Sept. 26 -30). One of the goals of the festival is to provide an environment for talented high school jazz musicians to expand their musicianship and performance techniques. Twelve young musicians from seven Arizona high schools have been selected as members of this band. They rehearse and perform around the state with SJOR musicians leading up to the festival. We catch up with the Youth Band while they’re in town for a gig.
August 27, 2007July 31, 2007- West Nile Virus
- In the past month, the number of confirmed West Nile Virus cases in Maricopa County has significantly increased. Backyards are a primary culprit for hidden breeding places for the mosquitoes that carry the disease. We examine a typical backyard with Maricopa County Environmental Services’ Vector Control to find some surprising breeding places and learn how to eliminate these areas.
- USS Tucson
- Two ships of the United States Navy have been named after the city of Tucson, Arizona. The first was a light cruiser, commissioned in 1945 and decommissioned in 1949. The second is a Los Angeles-Class nuclear attack submarine commissioned in 1995 and on active duty as of 2006. Recently, reporter Christopher Conover and a group of residents from The Old Pueblo took a tour of the sub.

- Arizona state lawmakers recently passed two bills dealing with water, one deals with water adequacy and one that sets up a fund for infrastructure. Meantime it looks like Senate Bill 1552 the Air Quality Program--- will go to conference committee for additional amendments next week. The Sierra Club is asking legislators to make it as strong as possible. Joining Horizon is Sandy Bahr, Conservation Outreach Director for the Sierra Club Grand Canyon Chapter.

We talk about the role partisan politics plays in shaping environmental policy in the United States.
April 18, 2007- Air Quality
- The Phoenix area continues to violate the federal health standard for PM-10 airborne particulates, or dust. Find out what needs to be done to meet a deadline (at the end of this year) for a plan to reduce particulate pollution by five percent a year until the standard is met.

- Cooler temperatures early this week gave us a break from the previous week’s bad air quality but that doesn’t mean we are clear of future sightings of the Valley's winter brown cloud. The layer of visible particulates that blankets the skyline during the winter season will surely be back. Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Director Steve Owens joins Horizon to talk about the region’s air quality as wells as ways to reduce particulate matter-producing emissions.

March 25, 2005- Journalists Roundtable
- The Clean Elections Commission voted unanimously Thursday to remove state representative David Burnell Smith from office for violating campaign spending limits. It took Governor Janet Napolitano a matter of minutes to veto the budget proposal approved by State lawmakers last week. And the State senate did a flip-flop this week on the future of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.
