 Video - An Arizona Science Center exhibit titled “Da Vinci - The Genius” is the most comprehensive exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci to tour the world. It shows the full range of his genius as an inventor, artist, scientist, anatomist and more. The exhibit blends science, engineering, art and culture, and features a look at the secrets of the Mona Lisa. Sari Custer, director of guest experience at Arizona Science Center, will tell us more about the exhibit. Robert Bjork, director of the Arizona Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies at Arizona State University and a world-renowned expert in medieval studies, will talk about da Vinci and his work.

- Former University of Arizona professor Guy McPherson left his tenured full professorship in 2009 to live off the grid. He moved into a straw-bale house in New Mexico and lives a sustainable lifestyle, with organic gardening, and raising small animals for eggs and milk. McPherson’s life has been made into a film titled "Somewhere in New Mexico before the End of Time,” which will debut in Tucson on May 4. McPherson will talk about his life and the film.

- The Arizona State University School of Theatre and Film is bringing to the Valley “Soot and Spit,” the story of artist James Castle, who was born deaf. He used materials at hand to create art, including soot from a woodstove mixed with saliva. The production brings together deaf and cognitively-challenged actors to illuminate the life of the self-taught Castle, who’s worked paralleled the art movements of the 20th century, although he worked isolated from the art community in a small Idaho town. The production is directed by New York artist Kim Weild, who will talk about “Soot and Spit” on Arizona Horizon.

March 1, 2007- stolen Sculptures
- Arizona sculptor John Henry Waddell is known around the world for his life-size, realistic bronze statues of human figures in poignant poses. Earlier this month, eight of Waddells statues were stolen from his property in Cornville, south of Sedona. Tragically, thieves might have taken the artwork for the metal. Bronze is 90 percent copper which is valued for its record-high prices. Well speak with Waddell about the incident that likely reduced his artistic creations to raw material.

Capturing the scale and beauty of the Grand Canyon has been a creative challenge for artists since the mid 1800s. The Grand Canyon: From Dream to Icon is featured until next January at the Tucson Art Museum. Photographs and paintings from early to contemporary artists are featured.
