Wow, This program was great! It had my attention in the first five minutes. It really shows what a lot of hard work and patience will do to turn the lives around of two shelter dogs that were deemed “failures” as pets.

The story profiles two canines labeled as “problem dogs” that were facing their last chance for success in life. They lacked the physical and mental stimulation that they craved. This program shows two examples of how to channel their energy and turn them into two great working dogs.

Holly the bloodhound was a hyperactive “home wrecker” who had been placed in six homes before she found the stimulation she craved. She has a strong personality and just needed to turn on some rules. She needed a job, she needed a challenge.

The program shows her daily life with her new found friend dog trainer, Larry Allen and the step by step training they encountered together through the 12 week training. They showed great detail in how to teach a dog to follow a scent and desensitizing her to loud noises.

And then there’s Herbie, a bearded collie with an unfortunate habit of attacking sheep rather than herding them. He also was a strong willed dog who needed some very firm lessons in obedience training. His wonderful trainer Barbara Sykes took him by the paw and helped him with an understanding of who exactly was going to win in the test of wills. Herbie is now well behaved and shows great respect for his handler and the sheep.

This program was wonderful and I will definitely watch it again to catch every detail.

Another great Nature program “Underdogs!”
