An important change in broadcasting is coming in February 2009. Television is moving from an old standard – known as “analog” – to the new standard: “digital.” Many stations are offering programming on their digital channels. Eight now multicasts three digital channels. To view digital broadcasts, your analog tv will require a converter box. (Converters may not be needed if you are connected to cable, satellite, or other pay television services. Check with your service provider.)

Beginning this month, the government will help with the cost of certain converters. Each household in America can request up to two coupons.
