By Kids, About Kids![]() Who better to tell the story about elementary and middle school students than other students? That’s what we thought, too. This year we invited a team of student reporters from Buckeye Middle School — Marlena Brinkley, Sara Bleau, and Kyle Patrick — to capture the action at the Arizona Spelling Bee. The three journalists spoke with parents, Bee officials, our Eight/KAET General Manager and Bee finalists. They uncovered stories of good luck charms, secret spelling techniques, family support and winning aspirations for next year.

We also selected two of the finalists – Kelly Lunt and Nicole Rapatan – and supplied them with cameras, and an assignment. We asked Kelly to chronicle her activities on the morning of the Bee. Nicole was asked to share her secrets for studying. View their photo diaries:
To quote one of the student reporter's stories, “Spelling Bees are one of the ways that students get to shine.” We think we found a few other ways as well. Our thanks to Kyle, Sara, Marlena, Kelly and Nicole, and to the parents and siblings and teachers who support their growth and accomplishments. See you next year. |
