EARTH AND SPACE EXPLORATIONSeismologist Matt FouchASU scientists are studying plate tectonics and the dramatic evidence of the Earth’s powerful inner forces — as evidenced in Arizona’s Supersition Mountains. The mountains are the result of an incredible array of volcanic processes. But the mystery is the source of the volcanism. Fouch, Ph.D., is taking part in EarthScope, a major initiative that seeks to develop an unprecedented view of the Earth’s interior. Seismometers will be installed across the U.S. – more than 50 throughout Arizona. The instruments will develop high-resolution images of the earth’s interior from the crust to the core to explore the structure and evolution of the North American continent and deep Earth. |
