KAET hosts 2006 semi-finals and finals of inaugural competition

Four-member teams of undergraduate students representing individual colleges at Arizona State University faced off in the semifinals and finals of the school’s first-ever academic game show. The ASU Academic Bowl aired Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 5 p.m. on Eight/KAET-TV. Additional broadcasts were: November 22, 2006 at 11 p.m. and November 26, 2006 at 2p.m.

The competition, sponsored by ASU’s Offices of Public Affairs and Student Affairs, was modeled after the national College Bowl. Four-member teams competed in a question-and-answer format on a wide range of subjects, including current events, history, science, sports and culture. The teams vied for scholarship prizes of $4,500 – a full year’s tuition at in-state rates – for each of the four members of the winning team, as well as the President’s Cup trophy. The winning team’s alternate members each received a $1,000 scholarship.

Down from an original field of 16 college teams, four remained for the final two rounds. The teams that remained in the competition included: the W.P. Carey School of Business; the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering and the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education.

Hosts of each of the three final rounds were: Mark Jacobs, dean, Barrett Honors College; Kwang-Wu Kim, dean, Herberger College of Fine Arts; and Michael Crow, president, Arizona State University.
