August 20, 2012- Megapolitan Impacts on Climate | Video
- Arizona State University, along with the National Center for Atmospheric Research, have conducted a first-of-its-kind study on the impacts of megapolitan areas on regional climate. The study found that the Sun Corridor, a megapolitan area running from Prescott to Nogales and expected to be home to nine million people by 2040, could raise temperatures by four degrees Celsius. Matei Georgescu, lead author and assistant professor in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning in ASU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will talk about the study.

- We’ll talk to Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, director of the Arizona State University School of Computing Informatics. The school combines computer and information sciences with other academic disciplines such as geography, anthropology, public health, urban planning and biology.

- Buzz
Buzz is more than just a TV show. It comprises television, an interactive Web site (www.azpbs.org/buzz) and uniquely Arizona educational materials that help teachers meet new Arizona arts standards. Discussions for the concept showcasing Arizona’s emerging arts scene began more than a year ago, eventually involving more than 20 community organizations.
The pilot episode features work by three Valley artists – Phoenix Symphony violist and director of Downtown Chamber Series Mark Dix who brings chamber music to new audiences at downtown art galleries; fashion and ASU Dance Department costume designer Galina Mihaleva designs for dancers, models, rock stars and nanotechnologists; and urban designer and Dean of the ASU College of Design Wellington Reiter who envisions a Phoenix Sky Harbor airport where planes, condos and pools might one day co-exist. The pilot also lets viewers know where they can see and hear the work of the featured artists as well as other artists in the same fields.

- For 60 years now, the Urban League of Phoenix has been serving the needs of the underprivileged in the Valley. George Dean of the Urban League talks about his organization, which originally started to serve the needs of African-Americans, but expanded to serve the needs of the underprivileged of all races.

- With the death of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, President Bush has elevated John Roberts' nomination to take over as Chief Justice. George Watson, an ASU professor who has written a book about the nomination process, will talk about the Roberts' nomination and what it means to the court.
- salvation Army Hurricane Relief
- The Salvation Army has set up a donation center to help victims of Hurricane Katrina now living in Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix. The center has been a huge success, with Valley residents responding quickly to the needs of the hurricane survivors. We'll talk to a Salvation Army official about the relief effort.
