 Video - There will be a free screening of the Bill Moyers production, “The United States of ALEC,” sponsored by AFSCME, the Arizona public employees union. ALEC IS the American Legislative Exchange Council, and critics say it allows corporations to direct and produce legislation for state legislatures. Common Cause President and CEO Bob Edgar will introduce the film and present a new report on all ALEC-backed legislation introduced in Arizona this year.

March 7, 2013- Miranda Warning Anniversary | Video
- The 50th anniversary of one of the most famous arrests in American history is happening in March. On March 13th, 1963, Ernesto Miranda was arrested for rape, kidnapping and robbery in Phoenix without being informed of any of his rights. That led to a United States Supreme Court ruling requiring all being arrested to be read their “Miranda Rights.” Arizona State University adjunct law professor Gary Stuart, who’s written a book about the case, will talk about the history of the Miranda Warning.

- The United States Supreme Court has heard oral arguments on an Alabama case that could overturn a key provision of the 1965 voting rights act. Civil rights advocates have called that provision the “hammer” and “heart” of federal efforts to protect minority voting rights. November 26, 2012- U.S.-Mexico Colorado River Water Agreement | Video
- The United States and Mexico have a new agreement on Colorado River water. The new deal will allow the U.S. to get a one-time increased allotment from the river in exchange for $10 million and helping Mexico to repair canals damaged in a 2010 earthquake. It also lets Mexico store water in Lake Mead, which will boost water levels by 15 feet and could lead to more tourism at the lake.

What he said while the cameras were rolling changed his life forever. His story is featured in the new documentary “Booker’s Place”. - The United States Supreme Court ruled that the matching funds provision of Arizona’s Clean Elections public campaign financing system is unconstitutional. That means publicly-funded candidates will no longer get extra public money to match spending by privately-financed candidates. July 31, 2007- USS Tucson
- Two ships of the United States Navy have been named after the city of Tucson, Arizona. The first was a light cruiser, commissioned in 1945 and decommissioned in 1949. The second is a Los Angeles-Class nuclear attack submarine commissioned in 1995 and on active duty as of 2006. Recently, reporter Christopher Conover and a group of residents from The Old Pueblo took a tour of the sub.

- There is hope for hundreds of Iraq war refugees here in Arizona. The United Nations is screening and registering refugees this month. Joining HORIZON is Jamal Al-Fakhouri, Regional Director from the Tucson area of the International Rescue Committee, which works with placing refugees in our state.

- The National Governors Association, chaired by Governor Janet Napolitano, announced a 17-member task force to guide the Innovation America initiative. The task force will discuss strategies, policies and programs centered around K-12 science, technology, engineering and mathematics education and the role of postsecondary education as an engine of innovation. Innovation America brings together a bipartisan group of governors and members of the academic and business communities to support private sector innovation and strengthen the competitive position of the United States in the global economy.
November 16, 2006- Fuel Mileage
- since 1996, nine of the 13 major car manufacturers selling cars in the United States have actually had a decrease in the average gas mileage of the vehicles they sell. Phyllis Rowe of the Arizona Consumer Council will talk about a grassroots effort to increase fuel mileage of vehicles.
October 11, 2006- Federal appeals court decision would put voter I.D. requirements on hold
- A federal appeals court has put a temporary hold on requirements to show I.D. when voting and proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard says he is going to appeal the case to the United States Supreme Court. Arizona State University professor Paul Bender will talk about the legal issues involved in the case.

- There are some new restrictions for airline passengers related to the terrorism plot uncovered on August 9. British law enforcement made multiple arrests on suspicion of plotting to blow up passenger planes. The alleged plan was to simultaneously blow up several aircraft heading to the United States using benign liquids to make an explosive. For that reason, the U.S. Government raised the nations threat level and is prohibiting any liquids, including beverages, gels, and lotions from being carried onto airplanes. What does this mean in terms of security at Sky Harbor Airport? Paul Blue, Assistant Aviation Director at Sky Harbor Airport joins HORIZON.
