A denial-of-service attack shut down major web sites such as Netflix, Twitter, CNN and others recently by attacking a service provider for those companies. The attack took place by overloading servers via gadgets or appliances that are connected to the internet, known as the Internet of Things. Two Arizona State University computer science doctoral students are developing computer models for analytical systems that can gather data generated by Twitter and organize it in a way that can lead to analysis of public opinion.
