    • Arizona’s Transportation and Trade Corridor Alliance has completed its Strategic Roadmap: a plan for Arizona’s future transportation needs. Created by a group of experts from the public and private sectors, the Roadmap seeks to better connect Arizona to the global economy. Arizona Department of Transportation director John Halikowski, Margie Emmermann, the executive director of the Arizona-Mexico Commission, and Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, will discuss how the plan intertwines commerce, trade and transportation.

    • A new survey shows Arizonans are driving less and taking other forms of transportation more often. It was released by the Arizona Public Interest Research Groups Organization and St. Luke’s Health Initiatives.     • The State Transportation Board recently voted to move forward with Arizona’s Five-year Transportation Facilities Construction Program. The vote gives the go ahead to work on six major road projects in Pima County and four in Maricopa County. Scott Omer, Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Multimodal Planning Division, will discuss the plans.

    • In a recent six-day period, there were three fatal wrong-way accidents in the Phoenix area. That alarmed state officials, who are meeting to address the issue.     • The Arizona Department of Transportation has narrowed down the list to three possible sites for a passenger rail line from Phoenix to Tucson. Arizona Republic transportation reporter Sean Holstege will talk about the rail line as well as give us an update on the South Mountain Freeway and Interstate 11, the proposed Phoenix to Las Vegas interstate freeway.

  • Transportation Acceleration
    • Widening of the I-10 and I-17 freeways, speedier commutes on the loop 101 and improved mobility on the loop 303 could be a reality sooner than originally expected. Those are a few of the transportation acceleration projects recently approved by the Maricopa Association of Governments and the State Transportation Board. Legislation passed in the last session paved the way for the acceleration of construction or rebuilding of freeways, state highways, bridges and interchanges in the MAG Regional Transportation Plan.
