    • We tell you about a new report on forest thinning. The Nature Conservancy and Arizona State University have teamed up on the report that shows how to create a sustainable, economically viable method for thinning small diameter trees. Dan O’Neill, general manager of S-3, a consulting service offered by ASU’s Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives, and Patrick Graham, state director of the Nature Conservancy in Arizona, talk about the report.

  • Clinton Global Initiative University  |   Video
    • The seventh annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative University will take place this weekend at Arizona State University in Tempe. Former President Bill Clinton, Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton will meet with more than 1,000 student leaders from around the world. The students will work at developing solutions to human rights abuses, women’s social and economic empowerment, and HIV/AIDS in the United States. Jacqueline Smith, ASU Executive Director of University Initiatives, will talk about the event, along with two of the student participants: ASU students Kathleen Stafanik and Josue Macias.

    • A new report will be released on the state of women in Arizona by the Arizona Foundation for Women. It was conducted by the Grand Canyon Institute for the Southern Foundation of Arizona Women and looks at the economic and education conditions of women and families in our state and offers solutions to the problems it outlines. Sara Presler, CEO of the Arizona Foundation for Women, and Grand Canyon Institute Fellow Molly Castelazo, will talk about the report’s findings.

    • A new report from The Annie E. Casey Foundation, “The First Eight Years: Building a Foundation for Lifetime Success,” addresses how states can help children thrive. The report shows problems children are facing and also points to solutions. Dana Naimark of the Children’s Action Alliance will discuss the report.

    • Arizona State University researchers will discuss their findings regarding the causes of obesity. Dr. James Levine, co-director of the Mayo Clinic-ASU Obesity Solutions Initiative, will talk about the impact of sitting on weight gain. Alexandra Brewis Slade, director of operations for the ASU-Mayo Obesity Solutions Initiative, will talk about her research that compares obesity in different countries.

    • The latest Arizona Town Hall dealt with higher education in Arizona. The percentage of Arizonans with college degrees remains below the national average, funding for higher education is declining, and access to postsecondary education remains a challenge for many. Panelists who attended the Arizona Town Hall on higher education will talk about solutions offered at the event.
