- Governor Jan Brewer asked for an investigation of alleged wrongdoing within the Arizona National Guard after a report by the Arizona Republic. - MOMA’s House is a Laveen-based organization that provides a safe place for women recovering from domestic violence abuse and human sex trafficking. Women at MOMA’s House each have their own room and complete a program to help them regain their lives. Maraion Douglas, who suffered from her own domestic violence, is the founder of MOMA’s House and the recipient of an “Angels Among Us” award. She will talk about her organization and her award.
March 4, 2013- Gabriel’s Angels | Video
- Gabriel’s Angels brings pet therapy to abused, neglected and at-risk children throughout Arizona. The organization, with offices in Phoenix and Tucson, was named after Gabriel, the first dog to be used in therapy. The Angels are the kids receiving the help. Gabriel’s Angels has nearly 150 Therapy Teams delivering pet therapy to over 100 agencies. Gabriel’s Angels founder and CEO Pam Gaber will tell us more.

- Governor Jan Brewer called a special session to expand Arizona’s corporate tax credit law to benefit disabled and foster kids. Already, corporations that owe state income tax can choose to give some, or all, of that money to a school tuition organization which uses the money to help low income kids attend private and religious schools. The special session seeks to create a similar program for foster and disabled kids.

- The Nature Conservancy�s Arizona Director discusses an initiative petition drive his organization has launched. If successful, it will place a proposition on November�s general election ballot asking voters to amend the State Constitution to allow 570,000 acres of state trust land to be set aside for permanent conservation. More than ten million acres of trust land were given to Arizona by the federal government at statehood. They�re held in trust, leased and sold by the State Land Department to raise money for public schools and other beneficiaries.

- Local First Arizona/Arizona Chain Reaction is a nonprofit organization that encourages Arizona consumers to shop at locally owned, independent businesses. They are asking Arizonans to support Arizona-based businesses during Independents Week, July 2 through July 8. Kimber Lanning, executive director of Local First Arizona, joins the studio discussion.

- The Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) is working on the first comprehensive maps of earth fissures in Arizona. These tension cracks in the earth occur when groundwater is extracted faster than its replenished. The survey director talks about the mapping project and some of the problems caused by earth fissures.

- The International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH), based in Scottsdale, was founded twenty-five years ago by the Reverend Leon H. Sullivan, a visionary leader and Baptist minister. The organization helps Africans reduce hunger and poverty, empower local communities, raise the standard of literacy and foster cultural, social and economic relations between Americans and Africans. IFESH is gearing up for a 25th anniversary celebration on September 25 with speakers and a workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility: Advancing Education in Africa through Public & Private Partnerships. - since AIDS was first detected in 1981, 9,000 Arizonans have been infected. In a half-hour special, HORIZON examines how trends have shifted over the years and the state of AIDS in Arizona today. We look at Body Positive, a local community organization fighting AIDS, running clinical trials on new treatments for HIV. While AIDS continues to ravage many parts of the world, Arizona is playing a role in finding a solution. A team at the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University has developed an immune agent that creates a protective immune response in mouse models of HIV.
