    • A group of Intel employees started a program two years ago to help low-income, high-performing students in the Phoenix-metro area prepare for the SAT college-entrance exam. Anil Goteti, CEO and co-founder of EqualOp and a packaging engineer at Intel, and Viva Valdez, a senior at Mountain View High School who is being helped by the program, will discuss EqualOp.

    • The Arizona Department of Transportation has narrowed down the list to three possible sites for a passenger rail line from Phoenix to Tucson. Arizona Republic transportation reporter Sean Holstege will talk about the rail line as well as give us an update on the South Mountain Freeway and Interstate 11, the proposed Phoenix to Las Vegas interstate freeway.

    • A public hearing on a draft environmental impact statement for the proposed South Mountain Freeway will be held Tuesday, May 21. The hearing will provide the public with an opportunity to learn more about the proposed new freeway and provide formal comments. Timothy Tate of the Arizona Department of Public Transportation will discuss the upcoming hearing and the latest on the freeway proposal.

    • Gila River Indian Community members voted down a plan to put the South Mountain (Loop 202) freeway expansion on the reservation. Now, a group of Gila River residents are collecting signatures to try to force another vote. Joseph Perez and Nathaniel Percharo explain why the want a new election.

    • Tonight, Eight, Arizona PBS airs the new five-part series, We Shall Remain: American Experience. It covers 300 years of pivotal moments in American history from the Native American perspective. White Mountain Apache filmmaker Dustinn Craig produced a feature-length, biographic documentary for the series about the life and times of the famous Chiricahua Apache, Geronimo. Craig talks about the film and his work as a filmmaker.

    • When crews building the Arizona Canal in the 1880s reached the area south of Camelback Mountain, they found a ridge of hard rock in their way. Instead of blasting it, they let the water flow over it and Arizona Falls was born. It was a place where people gathered to socialize and escape from the heat. Now, Arizona Falls is a piece of Arizona history that has been renewed to a present-day place of beauty, power...and picnics.
