  • Arizona ArtBeat: Jazz in Arizona/The Nash Center  |   Video
    • Established in 1977, Jazz in Arizona is a non-profit organization that offers jazz education and numerous performances. It also owns “The Nash,” a jazz club in Phoenix that was named after drummer Lewis Nash, a Phoenix native who was named the “most valuable player” in jazz by Modern Drummer Magazine. Nash will be back in town to perform for the second anniversary of The Nash and will talk about the club along with Joel Goldenthal, the executive director of Jazz in Arizona.

    • A traveling exhibit at the Arizona Science Center showcases human and animal mummies to help explain how archaeologists use modern science and technology to uncover and understand the ancient civilization of Egypt. We’ll take a video tour of the exhibit.

  • Modern Governance Research  |   Video
    • Congress has some of its lowest approval ratings ever. Arizona State University researchers will join an elite group of international experts to study ways to improve governance. Erik Johnston, director of the Center for Policy Informatics at Arizona State University, and Justin Longo, also of the Center for Policy Informatics, will help study new uses of technologies, data, and public engagement to design innovative government programs. Johnston and Longo will talk about their efforts.

    • “Modern Spirit: Fashion of the 1920s” is an exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum that runs through February 10th. The museum’s curator of fashion, Dennita Sewell, talks about the exhibition and why the 1920s helped define modern fashion.

    • Using modern scientific tools, a team of researchers led by John Sabo, an ASU Professor in the School of Life Sciences, tested assertions, from the 1986 book “Cadillac Desert”, that the American West was running out of water. Sabo discusses the group’s findings.
