    • Science Foundation Arizona has named four Ph.D. candidates and early-career tenure track faculty for its prestigious Bisgrove Scholars award. The goal is to attract and retain individuals in science and engineering. William Harris, president and CEO of Science Foundation Arizona, will discuss the Bisgrove Scholars award, along with Dr. Muhammad Murtaza, who will be an Early Career Scholar at the Translational Genomics Research Institute, and Rachel Rowe, who will be a Post-Doctoral Scholar at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

  • Moratorium on Regulations  |   Video
    • One of Governor Jan Brewer’s first actions as governor was to impose a moratorium on new regulations. A new report is out on that issue. The Grand Canyon Institute’s report, “Why Arizona’s Regulatory Moratorium is Unnecessary,” reveals how moratoriums can lead to less public oversight and are not meeting the stated goal of creating more jobs. Grand Canyon Institute fellow Karen Smith, who wrote the report, will discuss her findings.

    • Phoenix city officials are conducting community workshops to get ideas and input regarding development along the city’s light rail line. The goal: to develop walkable communities that work in conjunction with mass transit. Alan Stephenson is the acting planning and development director for Phoenix and will discuss the effort.

  • Energy Efficiency Standard  |   Video
    • The Arizona Corporation Commission recently approved one of the most aggressive energy efficiency standards in the nation. It requires regulated utilities to reduce the amount of energy they sell 22% by 2020. Jeff Schlegel of the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project and ASU professor Matthew Croucher discuss what it will take to reach that goal.

  • Canine Cancer  |   Video
    • The Phoenix-based Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is partnering with the Van Andel Research Institute in Michigan to study cancers in dogs. The goal is to find ways to improve the health of both dogs and people. President and Research Director for TGen Dr. Jeffrey Trent talks about the research project.

    • Roughly 130,000 children in Arizona qualify for KidsCare but are not enrolled. "Love Your Kids" is the first-ever statewide KidsCare enrollment event. Its goal is to raise awareness for the low-cost health insurance available to many of Arizona's working families, and to help qualifying families apply. Dana Naimark, president & CEO of Childrens Action Alliance, tells us more about the event.
