  • The Arizona We Want Grant  |   Video
    • The Center for the Future of Arizona announced today it has raised $1.375 million to fund implementation of The Arizona We Want 2.0: The Case for Action. The plan calls for improving the lives of Arizonans in eight key areas, including education, job creation, environment, water management and healthcare. The Center for the Future of Arizona Chairman and CEO Dr. Lattie Coor will discuss the implementation of the new funds.

  • Charities Performance Indicator  |   Video
    • A major announcement was recently made in the charity world regarding a key indicator of a non-profit’s performance. Guidestar, Charity Navigator and Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance are the three national organizations that set the leading criteria of a nonprofit’s performance: overhead ratio, the percent spent on administrative and fund raising costs. However, the three organizations just sent out a letter denouncing those criteria as a leading indicator. Steve Zabilski, Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul and Ellen Solowey, Program Officer for the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, will discuss the development.

    • The temporary 1-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2010 to fund public education expires next year. Prop 204, which would have permanently extended that tax, failed at the ballot box this November. We’ll take a look at how that affects the funding of public schools with John Arnold, Director of the Governor’s Budget Office; Chuck Essigs, Director of Governmental Affairs for the Arizona Association of School Business Officials; and Timothy Ogle, Executive Director of the Arizona School Boards Association.

    • State lawmakers have referred a measure to the 2010 general election ballot asking Arizona voters to repeal First Things First, an early childhood development and education program, funded by a tax on cigarettes, that was passed by voters in 2006.     • A measure heading for the November ballot would increase the sales tax to raise funds for transportation projects. The �T.I.M.E. Initiative� seeks to fund improvements to the state�s transportation system through a one-cent increase to our statewide sales tax over 30 years. David Martin with the T.I.M.E.     • Arizona state lawmakers recently passed two bills dealing with water, one deals with water adequacy and one that sets up a fund for infrastructure. Meantime it looks like Senate Bill 1552 the Air Quality Program--- will go to conference committee for additional amendments next week.
