    • The U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a “drought designation” for 11 Arizona counties. Eligible farmers in the drought designated counties can apply for low-interest loans. Jack Peterson, interim director for the Arizona Department of Agriculture, will discuss the issue.

    • Researchers at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona are working on a study to understand farmers’ perspectives on water management and how water policies affect their operations.     • The 3000 Club is a Phoenix-based charity that was born in 2008 as an idea to save a food bank that had lost its major donor. The idea was to get 3,000 supporters to donate $100 yearly. Besides feeding hungry families, the 3000 Club has expanded to include a farmers market, where you can buy 60 pounds of produce for $10, and a medical reclamation program to redistribute unused medical supplies to other countries. 3000 Club Co-founder and CEO Ethel Luzario will talk about her organization.

    • The Obama Administration will be giving grants to help small businesses, ranchers and farmers in Arizona install renewable energy systems or make energy efficient improvements. Ten Arizona rural businesses will be given the Rural Energy for America Program grants. Arizona State Director for Rural Development Alan Stephens will discuss the grants.
