    • An 18-year-old Corona del Sol High School student from Tempe recently took home the top award for electrical and mechanical engineering at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles. Sarah Galvin will talk about her award and the project she created to win it. Nathan Newman, a professor at Arizona State University’s Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering, mentored Galvin and will join her on the show.

    • The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair will be held May 12-17 at the Phoenix Convention Center, with aspiring scientists from all over the world competing. Renee Levin, Intel’s community engagement manager, will talk about the fair. Sarah Sakha, a student from Xavier High School, will talk about her winning project, which seeks to develop emergency food products used in famine relief.

  • Lilly Ledbetter - Fair Pay Advocate  |   Video
    • Her U.S. Supreme Court case on pay equity was the inspiration behind the Lilly Ledbetter Pay Equity Act of 2009, the first major legislation signed by President Obama. Lilly Ledbetter sued her former employer, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, for pay discrimination. Hear what she has to say about her case and what she’s doing to get Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.

  • 1,000 Foot Free Power Line Extension  |   Video
    • In the past, to encourage growth, landowners were not charged by APS for the first $25,000 of costs to extend power lines to their properties. The Arizona Corporation Commission has reversed that policy. Now, landowners must pay the complete cost of connecting their properties to a source of power. Critics say this has unfairly lowered property values and negatively impacted Arizona’s economy. Ted Simons will discuss the issue with Bobby Miller, a realtor representing Arizonans for Fair Power Policy and Sandy Bahr, Director of the Grand Canyon Chapter of the Sierra Club.

    • The Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) is designed to provide educators with information about students knowledge and understanding of various subjects, including math, reading and writing. While many support such standardized testing programs, others say the AIMS test is neither fair nor accurate in determining a student's potential. James Middleton, Division Director of Curriculum and Instruction at ASU College of Education and David Berliner, Regents Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at ASU College of Education will discuss the issue.
