    • The “Spine” is a section of the Interstate 17/Interstate 10 corridor that carries almost half the traffic in the Phoenix area. Public input is being sought to make improvements to the Spine. Bob Hazlett, senior engineering project manager for the Maricopa Association of Governments and project manager for the Spine Study, will discuss the plans.

    • Arizona’s Transportation and Trade Corridor Alliance has completed its Strategic Roadmap: a plan for Arizona’s future transportation needs. Created by a group of experts from the public and private sectors, the Roadmap seeks to better connect Arizona to the global economy. Arizona Department of Transportation director John Halikowski, Margie Emmermann, the executive director of the Arizona-Mexico Commission, and Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, will discuss how the plan intertwines commerce, trade and transportation.

ASU’s Morrison Institute has released a new report about making the Sun Corridor more competitive globally and with other states. The Global Cities Initiative is a joint project that aims to help metropolitan areas strengthen their international connections.

    • The city of Mesa is looking to set up a high-tech corridor on land near the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and a factory owned by Apple Inc. Mesa City Councilman Scott Somers and Barry Broome, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, will discuss the proposal for a new high-tech corridor in Mesa.

    • The Sun Corridor is the region of Arizona made up of Phoenix, Tucson and areas north and south of the two major cities. Arizona State University’s Morrison Institute has released a new report about making the area more competitive globally and with other states. Dan Hunting, Senior Policy Analyst for Morrison and one of the report’s authors will discuss his findings.

  • Megapolitan Impacts on Climate  |   Video
    • Arizona State University, along with the National Center for Atmospheric Research, have conducted a first-of-its-kind study on the impacts of megapolitan areas on regional climate. The study found that the Sun Corridor, a megapolitan area running from Prescott to Nogales and expected to be home to nine million people by 2040, could raise temperatures by four degrees Celsius. Matei Georgescu, lead author and assistant professor in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning in ASU’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will talk about the study.
