“Riders of the Purple Sage” is an opera being performed by Arizona Opera, and is based on the Zane Grey book of the same name. It also features backgrounds by world-renowned Arizona artist Ed Mell. Craig Bohmler, the composer for the opera, and Fenlon Lamb, the stage director, will tell us more about this Arizona production.
Acclaimed composer, conductor, and author Rob Kapilow brings his popular series “What Makes it Great: Secrets of Beethoven, Mozart and Gershwin” to Arizona. Kapilow unravels the mysteries surrounding some of our most well-known classical and contemporary musical pieces by showing audiences “what they are missing.” His teachings and demonstrations allow audiences to hear the music in a different way and provide an ”a-ha” moment. He will deconstruct Somewhere Over the Rainbow for us ahead of his concert at MIM.
The Phoenix Symphony’s new season kicks off this month. It will include visits by movie maker Steven Spielberg and composer John Williams. Phoenix Symphony President and CEO Jim Ward will talk about the upcoming season.
