    • A plan for Arizona’s future transportation needs is being laid out that seeks to better connect Arizona to the global economy. Arizona’s Transportation and Trade Corridor Alliance completed its Strategic Roadmap. It was created by a group of experts from the public and private sectors to develop a plan to position Arizona in a fast-growing global marketplace. Arizona Department of Transportation director John Halikowski, Margie Emmermann, the executive director of the Arizona-Mexico Commission, and Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, will discuss how the plan intertwines commerce, trade and transportation.

GPEC President and CEO Barry Broome and Sethuraman “Panch” Panchanathan, Senior Vice President for ASU’s Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development, will discuss the grant and the planned manufacturing center.

    • A bill has been passed by the Arizona House and is on its way to the Senate to impose sanctions on employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens. The bill is opposed by several chambers of commerce. A state lawmaker and a representative from the Arizona Chamber of Commerce will discuss the bill.

    • Eight U.S. Attorneys were recently fired by the Bush Administration in a controversial manner. ASU Law Professor Paul Bender will talk about how U.S. Attorneys are appointed and the firings of the eight attorneys.

  • Proposition 200
    • A proposition on the November ballot would give some lucky voter in Arizona a million dollars for voting. But is it the right idea? We'll talk to people on both sides of the issue.
  • Proposition 301
    • Current law states that people convicted for the first or second time for drug possession or use get probation rather than jail or prison time. Prop 301 would amend current law so that a person who is convicted for the first or second time of personal possession or use of meth can be sentenced to a term in jail or prison. The change in the law would allow judges to use a jail term as a condition of probation to force meth users to comply with court mandated drug rehab.
  • New Mesa police chef
    • Last month, city of Mesa officially welcomed a new police chief, George Gascon, 28-year veteran of the Los Angeles police department. Most recently assistance police chief at that department. Gascon replaces former chief Dennis Donna who retired in January. Gascon talked with Horizonte host, Jose Cardenas about his new job.

    • Arizona's congressional district map has been upheld by a state appellate court, but the same court ordered a trial judge to reconsider whether Arizona's legislative district map is constitutional. Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services will explain the ruling and what's next for the maps.
