    • The Inter Tribal Council of Arizona and Arizona State University have released a new report: “The State of Indian Country Arizona.” The report is an effort to accurately describe the legal, social, and economic relationship between the 22 Tribal Nations and the state of Arizona. Jacob Moore will address the report. Jacob was instrumental in putting the State of Indian Country Arizona together and is Tribal Relations Coordinator at Arizona State University.

    • Hundreds of the state’s business, science and education leaders will gather in Scottsdale for the Second Annual Arizona SciTech Festival Kickoff Conference on September 4. The conference will include 16 panel discussions, a keynote address and roughly 50 interactive stations to help those participating in the 2014 Arizona SciTech Festival make the most of their planning. Jeremy Babendure, Executive Director of the Arizona SciTech Festival, and Jeanine Jerkovic, Glendale’s Economic Development Administrator, will discuss the conference and the SciTech Festival.

    • Salt River Project and other partners who operate the Navajo Generating Station say they plan to close one of three generators to address a demand from the EPA concerning haze at the Grand Canyon. The operators also say they will stop burning conventional coal by 2044.     • The first regular session of the 47th legislature commencing today with Governor Janet Napolitano's third state of the state address. The governor's theme this year, "moving Arizona forward," allowed her to touch upon the issues promising to be high on the legislative agenda such as full-day kindergarten, the AIMS test, water and land policy and, of course, the state's budget. Governor also talking extensively about homeland security saying previous governors didn't have to talk about that issue in state of the state addresses but the times have changed. Reactions and analysis in this special hour-long "Horizon."
