Panelists looked at Arizona’s place in international trade compared to other states and NAFTA partners. While the nation’s exports increased 23 percent over a five-year period, Arizona’s declined two percent. Keith Galbut, the Chairman of the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations and Steven Beschloss, an award-winning writer, journalist and filmmaker, will discuss Arizona’s international trade picture.

    • The U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled today that young illegal immigrants given deferred deportations can have drivers licenses in Arizona. Governor Jan Brewer had issued an executive order, denying the “Dreamers” licenses. The court said that the young illegal immigrants were harmed by unequal treatment by the state. Laurie Roberts of the Arizona Republic discussed the ruling.

    • The Joe Foss Institute is a Scottsdale-based organization that was founded by Medal of Honor Recipient Joe Foss and his wife Didi. It is dedicated to advancing civics education. The "2014 Stars in Service” dinner benefiting the Institute is set for April 6. The event honors some of our Nation’s preeminent heroes, educators, and public servants, and will feature keynote speaker Charles Krauthammer, along with journalist Carl Bernstein and actor Richard Dreyfuss. Local war hero Pat Tillman will be honored posthumously at the event. Event chair Karrin Taylor and Joe Foss Institute executive director Lucian Spataro will discuss the group and its mission.

    • The Sedona Jazz on the Rocks (SJOR) festival is right around the corner (Sept. 26 -30). One of the goals of the festival is to provide an environment for talented high school jazz musicians to expand their musicianship and performance techniques. Twelve young musicians from seven Arizona high schools have been selected as members of this band. They rehearse and perform around the state with SJOR musicians leading up to the festival. We catch up with the Youth Band while theyre in town for a gig.
