 Video - The Ballet Arizona’s TOPIA is back for the season. It’s a night of dining and ballet under the desert sky at the Desert Botanical Garden. Ballet Arizona Director Ib Andersen’s ballet was created specifically for the Garden and is performed on a giant 80-foot stage. Andersen will discuss the performance on Arizona Horizon.

- Wayne Higby is an internationally-known ceramic artist and is on the faculty of the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in New York. Higby uses ceramic vessels to convey imagery. Higby will talk about his work on Arizona Horizon.

March 28, 2013- Arizona ArtBeat: “Soot and Spit” | Video
- The Arizona State University School of Theatre and Film is bringing to the Valley “Soot and Spit,” the story of artist James Castle, who was born deaf. He used materials at hand to create art, including soot from a woodstove mixed with saliva. The production brings together deaf and cognitively-challenged actors to illuminate the life of the self-taught Castle, who’s worked paralleled the art movements of the 20th century, although he worked isolated from the art community in a small Idaho town. The production is directed by New York artist Kim Weild, who will talk about “Soot and Spit” on Arizona Horizon.

- Ben Cameron from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation in New York will share his expertise on the role of arts and culture in a 21st century community via a series of events and dialogues being planned by the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust. Cameron will talk about the “essentialness” of a healthy arts and culture community.

- The world’s most famous male ballet dancer grew up and trained here in Arizona, and he’s established a scholarship here to get more boys interested in ballet. David Hallberg has established the “David Hallberg Scholarship for Boys.” He will talk about his scholarship, his career, and bullying he faced as a boy while studying ballet.
