  City of Superior vs Resolution Copper Mine

The town of Superior is against a land swap that would allow the construction of the Resolution Copper Mine near Superior. Former Mayor Roy Chavez and Superior Council Member Soyla “Kiki” Peralta testified about Superior’s opposition to the land swap before congress and will talk about that on Arizona Horizon.

  Bisbee Civil Unions Ordinance

The Bisbee City Council has approved an ordinance allowing same-sex civil unions in the southeastern Arizona city. Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne says that is unconstitutional, and has threatened to take the issue to court. Horne and attorney Tim Nelson will discuss the legality of the ordinance.

  Citrus Bug

There’s been a dramatic increase in western Arizona of a bug that can do tremendous damage to citrus trees. The Asian Citrus Psyllid carries greening disease, otherwise known as Huanglongbing. Once a tree is infected it will die. The disease could damage our state’s Citrus crop, one of the Five Cs that adds $37 million dollars a year to Arizona’s economy. John Caravett, a of the Arizona Department of Agriculture, will tell us more.

State Senator Rich Crandall has proposed a bill to allow rural teachers or administrators who meet certain requirements to carry concealed firearms, if approved by the school’s governing board. Senator Crandall and Senator Leah Landrum Taylor will discuss the pros and cons of the measure.

  Polygamy and Politics in Colorado City, Arizona

3TV News reporter Mike Watkiss talks about recent developments in Colorado City, an Arizona town on the Utah border that’s controlled by members of the FLDS church and their imprisoned leader Warren Jeffs. In recent weeks, the federal government has sued the town for discrimination and the Mohave County Sheriff has begun patrolling the town.
